A Trailblazer in Scholarship and Service from the bustling streets of Orile Iganmu to the quiet strength of academic distinction, Dr. Disu Oluyemisi Abayomi stands as a shining example of grit, vision, and purpose.

His journey began at Orile Iganmu Primary School, continued through State Grammar School Surulere, and reached a defining moment when he gained admission as one of the pioneer students of Osun State University Ikire Campus. There, his leadership instincts came alive as he served as the first ever President of the History Students’ Association (HISSA) and held the line as the goalkeeper for the College of Humanities football team. But his drive didn’t stop at academics or sports. His entrepreneurial flair led him to establish the very first photocopy centre in the college, a much needed service for the student community.

Following his graduation and national service, he was admitted into the prestigious School of History at the University of Ibadan. Life soon took another beautiful turn as he got married to a fellow alumnus and secured employment as a civil servant.

In February 2025, history was made again when Dr. Disu earned his Doctorate Degree in History as the first recipient at the Department of History, Faculty of Arts, Redeemer’s University Ede Osun State. His scholarly interests include World Wars and Gender History, and his intellectual footprint spans local and international publications as well as active participation in high profile academic gatherings, most notably at the Royal Netherlands Institute of Southeast Asia and Caribbean Studies (KITLV) and the University of Beyruth in Germany.

Currently, he serves with distinction at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) with over 12 years of experience. He holds dual leadership roles as the Gender Desk Officer for NYSC Ogun State and Business Manager of the NYSC Ogun Staff Welfare Committee.

A dedicated scholar, civil servant, entrepreneur, and family man, Dr. Disu Oluyemisi Abayomi is a proud son of UNIOSUN and a testament to how passion and purpose can create impact that echoes across communities.

Ladies and Gentlemen, On behalf of the President, Comr. Abubakar AbdulBasit Olalekan and the National Executives, We present to you Dr. Disu Oluyemisi Abayomi as the Alumnus of the Month of May.
